About Us

Who are we?

Cheadle Amateur Theatrical Society (C.A.T.S.) was formed from the Carlos Players when the Carlos Institute was demolished in 1974.

Today CATS has 74 members ranging in age from 11 to 80+. Our members are not only actors and actresses but many members are skilled in scenery construction, design, wardrobe and costume, make-up and publicity to name but a few. CATS are always ready to help other organisations and offer their skills, equipment or support where possible.

We hold evenings for play readings. This gives anyone who may not be ready to appear on stage a chance to practice their skills. We work as teams to discuss scenery design and build, to learn about appropriate costumes for the era of a play and learn how to make and improvise costumes.

We hold regular rehearsals at Cheadle Primary School on Monday and Friday evenings at 7.30 p.m.

Our yearly programme is as follows:-

In February, at Cheadle High School, we perform our annual traditional pantomime.

In March/April we compete in the All England One Act Festival staged at the Mitchell Memorial Theatre in Hanley, where in recent years we have had many nominations and won several awards. An adjudicator sends us a report on our production which helps us all to improve our skills.

In October we stage our play at the Moorlands Sixth Form Centre.

Since joining the North Staffs Drama Association both our Play and panto. have been adjudicated . In our first year we received 13 nominations and won the David Pugh trophy for Best Front of House
