Three In A Bed
CATS staged three one act plays in July 2002, which were collectively known as “Three In A Bed.”
Amongst these plays were “Last Tango In Little Grimley,” which won the group a merit certificate at a local drama festival in April 2002. Three of the actors who were in this production were also nominated for prestigious awards at the festival, as was the Director, Marjorie Stanley.
The plays, all written by the famous playwright David Tristram, are packed with hilarity and fun. The Director, Marjorie Stanley says,
“I was delighted when we won a merit certificate for the ‘Last Tango' and we felt that the people of Cheadle should have the opportunity to see the local talent. To make the night complete we decided to put on two other plays in addition to this. ”
The other plays that were performed were “Joining the Club,” a story of a highly successful career woman who becomes unexpectedly expectant and “What's For Pudding?” an hilarious play about the perils of married life.
All of the plays are packed with emotion and the actors were stretched to the limits to show everything from extreme happiness to extreme sadness. There are powerful arguments, touching love stories, side-splitting jokes and heartbreaking revelations.
Because the plays had to be put together in such a short time, it was necessary to have two directors. Warren Leese who has been a member of CATS for over 20 years has, for the first time tried his hand at directing. He is best known for playing comical roles, such as Buttons, in CATS annual pantomimes and so is well suited for directing two out of three of the farces. Warren says,
“I tried my best to choose plays that incorporate everyday issues so as to appeal to a wider range of people.”
