C.AT.S. (Cheadle Amateur Theatrical Society) is delighted to announce that theAward Winning One Act Plays entered into the All England Theatre Festival at Trentham High School in March are being brought to the audiences of Cheadle early next month for one night only.

As promised, C.A.T.S. is going to perform the plays in their home town for the first time. The people of Cheadle do not normally attend the All England Festival held in Stoke-on-Trent, so this is an ideal opportunity for the audience to see the plays and the talented cast.

This year, C.A.T.S. entered two plays into the Festival; ‘Cinderella Wore Combat Boots’, directed by 18 year old Kyle Hill was in the Youth Section and ‘Duplex’, directed by Marge Stanley was in the Adult category.

Dan Ede, who played the role of Paul Wentworth in Duplex, won the The Mitchell Theatre User Group Performance Award for Best Performance by an Actor over 21. Dan has been nominated many times for his performances in the One Act Festival, but this is the first time he has won an award.

Mike Egan, a newcomer to C.A.T.S. was nominated for Best Supporting Performance for his role as Rick Wentworth, also in Duplex.

It was also the first time for many years that C.A.T.S. has entered a play into the Youth Section of the competition. Cinderella Wore Combat Boots received two nominations. Both were for Best Performance for an Actress under 21; newcomer, Emmi Meakin who played Godzella one of the Ugly Sisters and Martha Hermolle for the Story Teller.

Both plays are in complete contrast to each other. Cinderella Wore Combat Boots is a light hearted take on the traditional Fairy Tale and Pantomime with lots of audience participation,  whilst Duplex is a tense, psychological drama with a climax that raises a few questions in itself.

Marge Stanley who is also President of C.A.T.S. is excited at the prospect of bringing the plays to Cheadle for the first time. She hopes that the people of Cheadle will come along and support all the hard work put into the productions, especially as rehearsals could only start after the successful C.A.T.S. Pantomime.
